If you have problems to see your Ubuntu App Pannel just open Terminal and write this :

metacity –replace &

If this not work for you then try to remove this folders from your Home

rm -rf ~/.gconf* ~/.gnome* ~/.metaci* ~/.thumb* ~/.nautilus* ~/.gtk* ~/.themes* ~/.icons*

Just go to Configuration Editor > Apps > Metacity > General > Button layout edit key from maximize,minimize,close to menu:minimize,maximize,close

Method 2 ( Terminal )

gconftool-2 --set "/apps/metacity/general/button_layout" --type string ":minimize,maximize,close"

How to Fix Disk Errors in Ubuntu

The Ubuntu Linux operating system uses the “fsck” (filesystem check) utility to check and repair any disk errors. The “fsck” utility can only be used on an unmounted drive. This means that the drive is not accessible to the normal user. If you want to repair the main hard drive, you must use the Ubuntu installation CD. The installation CD gives you the option to run a complete operating system from the CD drive, leaving your hard drive unmounted.

Things You’ll Need

Ubuntu installation CD

Insert the Ubuntu installation CD into your computer’s CD drive.

Reboot the computer and choose the “Boot from CD-Rom option.”

Choose the “Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer” menu option to boot into the Live CD.

Click on the “Applications” menu at the top of the screen.

Choose the “Accessories” sub-menu.

Choose the “Terminal” option to open a terminal window.

Type the command “fdisk -l” to locate the device name for the drive you want to fix. The device name will look like “/dev/sda.”

Type the command “sudo fsck -y /dev/sda” to check the filesystem and repair any errors. Replace “/dev/sda” with the device name for the disk you want to check. The “-y” option says to run the command non-interactively. Without this option, the utility will ask for confirmation before repairing any errors it encounters.

Repeat the command until no more errors are reported.

DLNA per lo streaming tra Ubuntu, Smartphone e Televisore

Qualche anno addietro potevamo solo sognarlo, magari di fronte ad un bel film di fantascienza, ora è realtà nemmeno troppo complicata. La riproduzione di file audio, video, immagini da un server-client (nel caso mio un pc con Ubuntu 11.10) a tutti gli altri dispositivi elettronici della casa attraverso la tecnologia DLNA. Di software per l’implementazione di server DLNA su Ubuntu ne ho provati diversi (mediatomb, rygel, PS3…), alla fine il più performante e probabilmente il più adatto alle caratteristiche dei “device” a disposizione è risultato essere “serviio“, un programma multipiattaforma liberamente scaricabile e installabile su ubuntu secondo le seguenti indicazioni:

Prerequisiti sono l’installazione di java e ffmpeg. Se non lo avete fatto basta un semplice

apt-get install default-jre
apt-get install ffmpeg

Ora di seguito download ed estrazione del pacchetto tar.gz.

wget http://download.serviio.org/releases/serviio-0.6.0.2-linux.tar.gz
tar xvf serviio-0.6.0.2-linux.tar.gz

Infine creazione dello script /etc/init/serviio.conf per l’avvio automatico al boot del pc

start on started networking
script
/home/maddom/Software/serviio-0.6.2/bin/serviio.sh
end script

TinyURL is a URL shortening service, a web service that provides short aliases for redirection of long URLs. Kevin Gilbertson, a web developer, launched the service in January 2002 so that he would be able to link directly to newsgroup postings that frequently had long and cumbersome addresses.

The TinyURL homepage includes a form that’s used to submit a long URL for shortening. For each URL entered, the server adds a new alias in its hashed database and returns a short URL such as http://tinyurl.com/yoqh2w in the following page. If the URL has already been requested, TinyURL will return the existing alias rather than create a duplicate entry. The short URL forwards users to the long URL.
